Matters of the Heart

Hello Dr.Rivera and fellow classmates. I hope everyone is doing well on this Thursday. I'm sure everyone is quite happy now that the weekend is almost here. Anyhow, today is another Moodle day as you all are aware of. We are supposed to discuss Shastri's essay. Personally, it striked me when I first read her essay. This was the first time I was captivated by one of the essays in our book. I guess I could relate to it on personal grounds. Sometimes, when we are deprived of something, especially when it comes to love, we go through certain measures and choices. I do not believe in fate or destiny. However, I do believe everyone has a choice. Afterall, life is about making choices, but when certain obstacles such as tradition, family, etc. get in the way, we have such a difficult time making a choice that wouldn't hurt the other party. We sometimes have to sacrifice our happiness for others. Moreover, I give props to Shastri for standing up for her love and telling her mom that she does not wish for an arranged marriage. Not everyone can do that. Of course her mother is saddened by that, but she has to accept it. In fact, there are many broken hearts in the world today due to the influence of others. It is merely an issue in the name of love. Maybe time can mend a broken heart, but the happiness you will find will have to be from yourself first, before anything or anybody else. Those are my thoughts on Shastri's essay. I was actually looking for more to read on the next page but apparently, it was other essays listed. I hope you all enjoy your day.

  1. Hi Alexa,
You stated a very good reaction about the essay. And I agree with everything you said! We should not let anyone interfere with our choices, especially if it concerns with our hearts. Love should be voluntary, and free of influences.
