Happy Holloween!

Good Morning Doctor Rivera and class of 4:00 pm. Tues. & Thursday EN-100-14,
Happy Halloween everyone! I started my day with a 5K run in Agana, Plaza de Espania,
and breakfast, was, ban nans, oranges and grapes. So, I've got my oxygen running, and now I've gotta go to a Funeral. Thought I'd make some time to say Happy Halloween, to all, and may you enjoy your your time wisely on the long weekend. Last year I got lucky with a snow white outfit, and it's my pleasure to apply an image. Be safe tonight and watch out for any Patterns of Cause and Effects. Take Care, LOU
w o w??? what a Trick or Treat. I didn't expect this on a Halloween Day. Say Doc, will you recognize this malfunction? Yesterday, after my 5K, I really to send my top blog, but keeps telling me that, I had an error, try again. Noticed the time and left my house, at 11:30 am. to funeral. I really thought it was me. Mean while back at the ranch, A Writing Analysis by Division: under Procedure; Then, you will break down a unit, into parts, and explain how each part functions in relation to the operation or existence of the whole.
Cause and Effect: Determining Reasons and Outcomes

I believe that any of natures related disasters, or topics that have a way of getting attached to the words causes and effects, would always determine an answer through the center of scientific investigation. They illustrate in just about anywhere, reading assignments, class discussion, reports, research papers and test. Yes I do, I mark up my text books, why should I sell them, when they are a value of great remembrance to me, I'd rather keep them for my future references, besides, I paid first hand to start my mini library at home. I love to highlight situation, related events tions, trend and now learning to list relevant causes and effects. A list of general topics below: high blood pressure, gang activity divorce rates, drug addition, inflation, economic depression drought flood, political change, racism, foregin policy, earthquake, volcanic eruption, or tax increase. This is the reason why I get dicouraged, when I ask a question and I get a whole different story, instead of a yes, or a no...So, if the car won't start why? is the cause, and because it won't start, what now? as soon as you hear the problem of the cause, automatically is the effect, there you go,causes and effects deal with reasons and results. I use to say, if there is a reason, there is a season...LOU

Happy Halloween

We had a test and it was in a bit of a different format. I hope I did okay, as well as everyone else. Then we had a moodle last night talking about cause and effect. A pretty simple concept. Other than that, we have a three-day weekend! Enjoy and be safe! If I can find the right stuff, I think I'm going to dress up as Ronald Mcdonald! Later guys :]
Tomorrow is Halloween!
Scared of Test 3 results!

Our test 3 this tuesday was pretty long, and I'm somewhat scared of what my score going to be. There was a lot of critical thinking questions from the paragraphs and that took most of my time. So how did you guys do? Thankfully I wasn't the last one to finish the exam, but I think most of us really took almost the whole class period for that one. Anyways, let's just hope that our next test is not going to be as tedious as the last one.
~Clare Sison
Dr. Rivera!
Would you let us know-- what chapters are involved with test #4?
I want to study early.
I also have few questions, is test #4 similar to test #3? Meaning, will test #4 carry questions from test #3 or #1~#3? I notice that test #3 was asking few flashback questions..
One of your A+ student, (I wish!)

Hello Dr. Rivera and fellow classmates,
Today was another moodle day about cause and effect! Personally, it is my favorite form of thinking. I think what would happen if a certain "cause" were to occur. If so, the effects are fun to think about, whether long-term or short-term. I like it better than analyzing by exemplification.
Halloween is coming up! I hope you all have a safe one, either out in the clubs or out in the streets. Be safe, drive safe, and take care as we welcome the Fall season.
MOODLE.
In the Moodle room we had to explain cause and effect and the writing process worksheet by Richard Blaylock.
Causes and effects deal with reasons and results; they are sometimes discussed together and sometimes separately. Like other forms of writing to explain, writing about causes and effects is based on natural thought processes.

All I can say tonight is thank goodness it's Friday tomorrow. Between the 2 tests, the moodle sessions, and the ton of homework and studying in my other courses, this will be a great 4 day weekend! Yes, tomorrow is a day off from work for me and I will be going going on a class field trip to Pagat Cave. Everyone else enjoy your long weekend and stay out of trouble for Halloween.

Happy Halloween! ..In advance.

It was Moodle Room time. Today's thoughts were about Reason and Outcome.
I just thought of a good example because I had a reason and outcome today. My reason for coming to school early was because of waking up on time. I'm happy.
Hope you guys have a fun weekend!
Halloween Bash tomorrow.

Halloween is Just Around The Corner
Hey guys! I hope everyone is doing well today. It was yet another Moodle day. I hope nobody forgot to post to the forums. The topic for today's Moodle is about cause and effect. It's a pretty easy topic. Halloween is almost coming up and I'm sure everyone is excited as I am. I passed by The Dungeon today and boy was it really crowded! Everyone's doing some last-minute Halloween shopping. Be safe on Halloween guys! Take care and see you guys on Tuesday!
I forgot today was moodle day. I went to the classroom but it was lock. Oh no, It's probably moodle day, so I decided to go home. How embarrasing. He he. Today's moodle is about cause and effect, I think I will use this kind of method, because the ideas relates to the topic, and it is straight to the point.
I miss EC206.
Moodle!
Today was another moodle day. We were supposed to discuss cause and effect. I hope everyone gets a chance to post on time. I believe next Tuesday will be our 5th exam. Please be sure to study so you may do well on the test. See you all next week and have a fun and safe Halloween!

Moddle Time

Good Morning to all: Today is moodle day, the topic for today is about cause and effect. One useful way to use a cause and effect is to list, and write down the event, situation. It is very important is use this steps.

Test #3

Hello everyone. On Tuesday, we took our third test of our EN100 class. However, this test was different than the tests we took before. This test had a different format. This time we need to read some short essays and answer the questions. I spent too much time to answer those questions, and that made me did not have enough time to finish up my test. I hope I did well for the test. I also hope everyone did well and get a good grade for it.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and see you all online next class.

test # 3
study in group
Well, hopefully the result of this test will meet with my expectation. I studied with Frank, Lou, Marian, and Kaori at the library before taking the test-- and it definitely helped. Some of the exercises on the test that were discussed, and every idea helped for me to answer/understand better. Another interesting event was that we all got our cholesterol level checked at the student center, and came out all healthy :) There is HIV test going on in November at the student center, so you guys should get tested :)
Test today.

There were so many things to study over the weekend.
I feel so relieved that I'm through with all of my tests today.
Dr. Rivera's test is starting to look a little complex than the usual multiple choice deal. It's okay though, I always like a challenge. As long as we study, there shouldn't be anything wrong, right?
Next stop, is the Moodle room, lets have our thinking caps ready. :)
Done!!!

We finished our exam 3!!!
I think it was kind of hard...
I didn't study about the part of multiple choices :(
I totaly forgot about the stuff of Chapter 5 and 6.
I hope I don't get F again.
Well, I was kind of happy that I got C on my 2nd exam. It is not that good, but I felt better because I didn't get F. haha
I will have another test tomorrow and our exam4 is on My Birthday... :(
I hope I don't need to take it. haha :)
Okay, I will start to study for tomorrow's exam!
See you guys soon!

Testing Testing *ahem*

Looks like majority of our class is blogging early today. I suppose it may have something to do with the test today. It's only on chapter eight, but underestimating a test can have severe consequences. I went over the chapter last night. I actually fell asleep right there on the spot after reading the last page. Hopefully I absorbed most of the knowledge and didn't drool on my book for nothing. Good luck everyone, may the English Fairy sprinkle you with its dust and grant you a good grade.
Test #3
I was just looking over the content for this week's test. It looks like there is not a whole lot of new information and seems to build on what we already have gone over. This test should not be too difficult, at least I am hoping. Didn't we just have a test? These things are starting to run together from one class to the next. Well, good luck and I hope that everyone studied and understands the course material. See you in class!

Tested to show yourself approved
Well its another testing day in EN-100 and this will be our third test. Sometimes I think why are we tested so hard. The only reason why there must be test's is to show, and approve that we know the material at hand. Without tests we would be senseless to the information that we recieve since there wouldn't be any examination of what we aquired. This may be a simple description of why we have test, but think of how the world would be if there were no driver's test. Anyone could then recieve a license, then imagine the problems there would be on the road then! This is why we need to be tested not just to rack our brains for information to Dr. Rivera's questions, but to test the limits of our knowledge to strive for excellence in our mental thinking.
Test Again!
I hope everyone studied or has been studying. I just remembered we had another test coming up last night when I was trying to complete a bunch of homework for my other classes. I'm sure you all will do fine. See you in class!

Did Everyone Study?
Hello everyone. Well today is another test taking day on chapter 8. I feel so bad because as I was trying to study and read, it just couldn't get through my head. I guess because of the overwhelming workload i was worrying about from my other classes. Sometimes I feel like I can't handle it, but eventually, I always make it through. I am hoping I pass this test. I'm so worries. Well, I'll end this here; I'm going to study somemore. See you guys later!
Test Today
Test
Good morning everyone! Today is just some really bad weather. I don't even feel like going to class today but then i forgot that we have a test today. What a great day to take a test. Hope everyone had time to study for the test. Only two more tests after this and then thats it. See everyone in class later. Have a good rest of the day everyone.

The Doctor

Hi Dr Rivera and my classmates! I hope everyone had a great weekend! This is my second blog for this week. Last Thursday we met at the moodle room and discussed about our thoughts on Mylonas’ essay.
This essay is based on "The Use of Force", a short story by William Carlos Willians. Told from the first-person point of view, it is a fictional account of a doctor making a house call to attend to a young girl. In writing about this story, Ajax Mylonas was intrigued by the way the central character struggled with two conflicts: one on the surface and one inside the mind. His writing process worksheet shows how his writing evoled from idea to final draft. He attached short quotations to his outline and then used them in his drafts.
The analysis by division was used to divide the subject (doctor) to two parts.
- Subject - The Doctor
- Principle - take care of patients
- Division of Parts - the doctor's struggle with the girl, and the struggle with himself.
- Discuss each part
I hope everyone has a great weekend and see you all online next week.
Best regards,

Writing Analysis By Division

Hi Dr Rivera and my classmates! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Last Thursday we met at the moodle room and discussed about the importance of analysis by division.
Writing Analysis By Division
We need to break down a unit (our subject) into its parts and explain how each part functions in relation to the operation or existence of the whole. Move from subject to principle, to division, to relationship.
We need to break down a unit (our subject) into its parts and explain how each part functions in relation to the operation or existence of the whole. Move from subject to principle, to division, to relationship.
- Step 1. Begin with something that is a unit (subject).
- Step 2. State one principle by which the unit can function.
- Step 3. Divide the unit into parts according to that principle.
- Step 4. Discuss each of the parts in relation to the unit.
Organization
In an essay of analysis by division, the main parts are likely to be the main points of our outline or main extension of our cluster.
Sequence of Parts
- Time: The sequence of the parts in our paragraph or essay can be mainly chronological, or time-based.
- Space: If our unit is a visual object, especially if, like a pencil, it does nothing by itself, we may discuss the parts in relation to space.
- Emphasis: Because the most emphatic location of any piece of writing is the end (the second most emphatic point is the beginning), consider placing the most significant part of the unit at the end.
Two Uses of Analysis by Division
Restaurant Review

The restaurant review is an article of one or more paragraphs that describes three elements:
- Ambiance - is the atmosphere, mood, or feeling of a place.
- Service - is mainly concerned with food delivery and those who do it: their attitude, manners, helpfulness, promptness, accuracy, and availability.
- Food - is the emphasis-its variety, quality, quantity, price, and presentation.
Short Story Review
A short story is a brief, imaginative narrative, with numerous functional elements (all of which can be analyzed): setting, conflict, characters, plot, theme, and point of view.

Writing Process Analysis

If you need to explain how to do something or how something was/is done, you will engage in process analysis.
Two types of process analysis
1. Directive process analysis: explains how to do things.
2. Informative process analysis: explains how something was/is done by giving data (information).
Three stages
1. Preparation/Background: list the materials or equipment needed for the process and discuss the necessary setup arrangements.
2. Steps or Sequence: acutal process will be presented here, and each step must be explained clearly and directly.
3. Order: usually be chronological (time) in some sense.
Review Ch.8
Use examples to explain, convince, or amuse.
Use examples that are vivid, specific, and representative.
1. Vivid examples arreact attention.
2. Specific examples are identifiable.
3. Representative examples are typical and therefore the basis for generalization.
Tie your examples clearly to your theisi.
Draw your examples form what you have read, heard, and experienced.
Brainstorm a list or cluster of possible examples before you write.
The order and number of your examples will depend on the purpose atated in your topic sentence or thesis.
Good luck on the test. =)

Test on Tuesday

Hello everyone. How is everyone’s weekend, I hope everyone had a good weekend. Next week Tuesday, we are going to have our third test for our EN100 class. I hope everyone had studied for the test, and get ready for it. The test will cover chapter eight. I think we just need to focus on the writer's guidelines at the end of each chapter, and the notes we took from our classes. Good luck studying and I'll see you all on Tuesday.
Very Long Weekend
Good Afternoon everyone,
How is the review for our 3rd exam going?I haven't finish my review, but hopefully I will finish it by the end of the evening. Hopefully you guys are doing well on the review. I can say that the essay and paragraphs for Chapter 8 are fairly long, and we don't know which ones is going to be in the test, so we better read and review them all. Never knew studying can be so tedious! :( Anyways goodluck on your reviews and see you all in Tuesday for the exam.

WOW

Hello EN100 Classmates,
First of all, I am so glad we didn't have to raffle to attend extra credit event. I know I need it real badly and I'll make sure to be there at every extra credit opportunity. Sounds like a fun event and I'm excited. On the other hand, my world is dull at this point because my performance on exam is terrible. I'm extremely worried that I will fail few classes and only thing I can do is -- study harder.
It's almost Halloween
Hello Dr. Rivera and Classmates,
It's finally weekend and I will be very busy studying for two test, English and Gov't politics. They are both on the 27th. If I study everything I'm sure I'll do well. It's almost Holloween, what are you guys planning to do? Well good luck to all of us in reviewing. I hope we all pass.
The Stress is on!!

Good Evening everyone,
How are you guys doing? How did the 2nd test's result for you guys go? Mine was alright, it was an "A" so I was content. Apart from the test results given out, we also discussed Chapter 9: Analysis by Division in class, and with the help of the discussion, the procedure for analysis became clearer! Before, I was unsure about Step 4 and how we can do it, but the exercise about analyzing Elvis Presley's (or Michael Jackson's) success, gave me idea on how to pursue the step 4.
After that, Dr. Rivera announced the upcoming 3rd test (already?)! And we have the weekends to study for all of Chapter 8. It doesn't seem to be a lot, but it is best to study well; which reminds me that the paragraphs and essays in chapter 8 are also included in the test.
So with that, my weekend will be very busy studying for EN100, and my Sociology Exam! I envy you guys who don't have a lot going on this weekend. :P Enjoy the week!

STUDY!
Overwhelmed
Hey everyone. How was class on Thursday? I had to miss class because a family friend had just passed away. It was a very traumatic experience for my family and I and still trying to recover. I hope I did not miss out on much during Thursday's class time. Can anyone tell me, what chapters are we supposed to study on for Tuesday's test? Thanks. Well, I'll end this here. I'll see you guys on Tuesday.

Exemplication Writing with Examples
Test
Two tested down. The class is going by so quickly. I hope that everyone is studying hard for next weeks test. I'm hoping that this one is a little easier than the past couple. Good luck studying this weekend for the next test.
Wow what a test!
Oops sorry hit the enter key and it sent it my bad. Well we had our second test, and boy did I bomb that one I guess need more study to all those that passed good job! Although, they say you must first fail before you can succseed this is why I can't give up so let all study for test # 3 and get done. Shoots EN-100 people see you at class till the next time.
Worried.
Class Session!
Today we were all able to meet as a class. I think it was fun to have in class session with today's lesson. The Elvis Presley example gave a good example based on writing. I am going to study hard next Tuesday.
I did not do so well on the second test. So I'm very much sad.
Hopefully I can do better this upcoming test next week.
Good luck to everyone.
Have a great weekend.

I really enjoyed seeing everyone in class and I'm looking forward to seeing Frank perform next class. Today we reviewed chapter 9. I wasn't too pleased with my grade for the previous test but I'm sure I'll do better on our next test. It's mid-semester and it's going by too fast. I hope everyone's been staying on top of their homework for this class and all their other classes. Anyway, I think this is pretty much all I have to say for now. Have a great weekend!

First Classroom Session in a While
Hello Dr. Rivera and fellow classmates,
Time sure is flying by. There is a test next Tuesday on only chapter 8, I believe. Today, we just reiterated on analysis by division. It is pretty interesting. We got our tests back and I received an 88. I was pretty proud of myself, considering that I didn't put 100% into my studies. Anyways, I hope you all have a safe weekend. Good luck on your studies!

Meeting in EC206

Today we met in our original English classroom, and we did our daily class routine: inspirational quote presentation, class discussion, and recieved our test back. My day enlightened when I saw that I did very well on my test. I'm so proud of myself! Anyways, next Tuesday, we have our last exam of the semester, and I'm pushing for another good grade for this one. Tomorrow's Friday everyone! Have a great weekend and be safe! Don't party too hard and if so, have a designated driver with you at all times!
See you all on Tuesday!

Noodle

Once, I was texting fred and the t9 spelled noodle instead of moodle and I didnt catch it. He was like what? Noodles today?
Haha anyways the moodle was about analysis by division. Its a very useful type of outline. It breaks a certain object or abstract concept into parts for better understandment. I used a car for my example in the moodle. See everyone tomorrow!

Moodle session
Hello everyone. Today was another moodle online session of this class. Today we had to discuss about writing analysis by division and Mylonas’ essay. Writing an analysis by division can explain how something works or exists as a unit. You will break down a unit (your subject) into its parts and explain how each part functions in relation to the operation or existence of the whole. There are four steps to guide you in writing an analysis by division. Those steps move from subject to principle, to division, to relationship.
I hope everyone has a good week, and see you all next class.

Cows say Moooooodle
Hello Dr. Rivera and fellow classmates,
Today is another day for a moodle session! We had to write about analysis by division, which is pretty interesting. In a way, we always use analysis by division in the way that we think and act. We may not know it, but it does help us think about what to write in essays or papers. We also had to read More Than just a House Call by Ajax Mylonas. The story was pretty interesting in how it shines a light on the dark side of being a doctor, which we all may not realize. However, the essay was well-written and enjoyable to read. That's enough for today. See you all on Thursday.

Moodle.
Today, we have a Moodle session. We had to discuss our explanations and show an example of analysis by division. Reading the essay made it easier to understand the steps of analysis by division. Everyone should be done in the Moodle room. It's almost midnight. Take care everyone. See you all soon.
Moodle!
So today was another moodle session. In the forum, we had to discuss the importance of analysis by division. I think having this skill can be useful not just in language but also in our everyday lives. Sometimes we may understand a situation better if we break into parts and look at everything and then put it together as a whole instead of just looking at the whole situation without actually looking into all the other small details that are important because they, in some way or another, contribute to the entire situation. I might just be rambling on, but I really do think that this skill is something that everyone should have.

I wanted to do my homework early, but the internet connection was poor. I'm glad it's getting better now. Today's study was bit confusing but I did what I could. Thinking about having another test next week stresses me out!!!!! How do you memorize so well, classmates? Any tips you want to share?
It's moodle time!

Today I attended the Moodle room.
I discussed about Analysis of Division a well as, Mylona's Essay, which also relates to Analysis by Division.
(When I was first read the her name, "Mylona," I thought of the Melona, the ice cream bar. It's funny.)
I think it's good that we have analysis by division. It helps interpret the subject of the character, and why they act the way they do.

Moodle!

Today in the Moodle room we are discussing the importance of Analysis by division: Examining the parts. Basically we are just breaking down our subject in to parts. You can use this method if you want to explain how something works or exists as a unit. We also discussed Mylonas' essay about a doctor who uses force toward a patient to get her mouth open for a standard procedure to check if she had any infections. How was everyone's day today? I hope that no one went to the classroom today. Well, I hope everyone had a good day! Good night, classmates.

Moodle Day on Analysis by Division
Hello everyone. I hope all of you are doing well. Today is another Moodle day. We had to discuss analysis by division and there are four steps to it. Analysis by division explains how something works as a unit. The four parts are unit, principle of function, parts based on the principle, and relationship to the unit. According to the calendar of events, we will be seeing each other this Thursday. We will also be having another test by by next week Tuesday. I feel like these tests keep on coming. Sighs. I don't think I did too good on the last test. However, I do have to try harder. Well, enjoy the rest of your day!
Analysis by Division

Good Morning: Today lesson is about Analysis by division. We need to explain how something works or exists as a unit and then we need to write an analysis by division, First of all we need to break down by unit(subject) then into parts and explain by parts and explain how each parts function by relation to the operation or existence of the whole.

Exemplification
Having to identify examples, convince or amuse to reach the interest of a reader. May provide one and most effective way of developing ideas. Examples may be explained in a sentence or more like in a phase. Three linked qualities are: Collectively, supporting the topic sentence of the paragraph as well as the thesis of an essay. As the reader reads, they may have the same imaginations just as the story is written or printed. May all enjoy your day, try this Art at Nissan Auto Oct. 2009 LOU
Major Boredom!

Hellow my fellow classmates,

Anyways, I am so bored right now and it is almost 12 midnight and I just decided to write a blog just to get it over and done with. Tomorrow we have another moodle day and I am definitely looking forward for that. Most especially though, I am looking forward to class on Thursday because hopefully we would receive our exam and see our wonderful grades. I hope I did well on it. It wasn't extremely hard or very easy, but more of between. On the other half, just a friendly reminder to everyone that do not forget to MOODLE! Hope to see you all on Thursday!

Exemplification

Hi Dr Rivera and my classmates! I hope everyone had a great weekend! This is my second blog for this week.
Last Tuesday, we met at the moodle room and discussed about the importance of exemplification, and our thoughts on Yegavian’s essay. Exemplification means using examples to explain, convince, or amuse. Lending interest and information to writing, exemplification is one of the most common and effective ways of developing ideas. We also need to know the characteristics of good examples. As supporting information, the best examples are specific, vivid, and representative, and the techniques for finding example are listing and clustering. In Yegavian’s essay, the author has traveled to many countries and encountered many cultures. Living in Southern California, he is constantly reminded that he lives in a global community. He uses a lot of specific, persuasive examples to hook the readers. As we can see, exemplification absolutely is one of the most common and effective ways of developing ideas.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and see you all online next week.
Best regards,

Mid-Term

Hi Dr Rivera and my classmates! I hope everyone had a great weekend!
Last Thursday was was our mid-term test for EN100. It consisted of chapters five through seven. I hope I did better than my first one. I also hope everyone could get a perfect grade. However, if I didn't get a perfect grade, I would never give up~! It is important that I do not give up when I'm working for my goals. Whether I succeed in the end or not, I will learn something, and what I learn will help me to become a better, more confident person.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and see you all online next week.
Best regards,

Narration (Five parts)

The importance of descriptive narration is make sure to have a complete and signficant action. Each narrative has five parts, which consists of Situation, Conflict, Struggle, Outcome.
Situation: is the background for the action.
Conflict: is friction.
Struggle: need not be physical, is the manner of dealing with conflict.
Outcome: is the result of the struggle.

Exemplification

Exemplification means using examples to explain, convince, or amuse. Examples may be used in a sentence or more, they may be only phrases or even single words. You use examples to inform or convince your reader. Also, anything can be a examples like, "The window is very clean I can use it as a mirror and see myself from it." I use mirror as a example to describ how clean the window is. The reader can imagin in their mind. I think that is how important exemplification really is.
