The importance of descriptive narration is make sure to have a complete and signficant action. Each narrative has five parts, which consists of Situation, Conflict, Struggle, Outcome.
Situation: is the background for the action.
Conflict: is friction.
Struggle: need not be physical, is the manner of dealing with conflict.
Outcome: is the result of the struggle.
Meaning: is the signigicance of the story.

Papers would be very bland with out descriptive narration. Who would want to read a non-descriptive paper?
